Three Pass Christian players kneel during Friday’s National Anthem
The hot topic in local sports over the weekend was the Pass Christian football team and the three players that took a knee for the National Anthem before their game at Bay High.
The photographs went viral and added to the ongoing national conversation, originally sparked by Colin Kaepernick’s silent and peaceful protest.
Today, News 25 reached out to Head Coach Casey Wittman for comment, but he says he’s following the lead of Pass Christian School District Superintendent Dr. Carla Evers.
She’s gone on the record with a statement, saying: “Whereas we honor and understand that as Americans we have a constitutional right to peaceful protest, we do not feel that Friday night football is the appropriate place or time for such action. As Pirates, we will rise above this, as we and our city have done so many times before.”
