Third suspect in shooting death of Moss Point man taken into custody

A third suspect wanted in connection with the May 27 shooting death of a man on Lilly Circle was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

Moss Point Police posted on its Facebook page that Jamichael Jacquiz Jenkins was taken into custody by Moss Point officers and U.S. Marshals.

An initial press release from Police Chief Brandon Ashley said that Anthony Rashawn Hunt was taken into custody in New Orleans and was awaiting extradition when he was found unresponsive in his cell. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. A coroner’s report has not yet been released, but initial indications were that he suffered a heart attack.

Two other suspects, Jenkins and Nekila Michelle Davis, aka “Moonpie” had warrants issued for their arrests. Davis was taken into custody on June 22.

The shooting occurred on May 27, about 11 p.m. Officers were notified of a shooting victim at Singing River Hospital. They learned the victim was brought to the hospital from the 4900 block of Lilly Circle. The victim, Devonte Carson, 27, died from his injuries at the hospital.

Police have learned from witness statements that three people drove to Lilly Circle in a Chevy Blazer driven by a female. Two males exited the vehicle and began an argument with Carson. A fight ensued, followed by several shots being fired and the victim being hit. All three suspects then fled in the Blazer.
