Third Annual Maritime Museum Meeting
Celebrating Mississippi’s maritime heritage is why folks gathered tonight at the maritime museum’s third annual membership meeting. Governor Phil Bryant delivered the key note address and attendees heard the annual report of Mississippi’s Maritime Museum that’s in the works. Right now, the museum owns two building from the former Pascagoula High School that they plan to rehabilitate and transform into a state of the art museum.
In the last two years, $750,000 have been raised for the museum. Officials say they hope to raise a total of $6 million.
“The history of the maritime industry here and the maritime lifestyle goes back to the very beginning of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This is a history that’s ours and we need to own it. It’s all about that blue economy out there, that beautiful sky and that water that is so much a part of our lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” said Governor Phil Bryant.
Phase one of rehabilitating the museum is set to begin in the near future. No word yet on that exact date but officials say it is important to keep the maritime history alive to younger generations.
