The Mississippi Food Fight

USM and Mississippi State are also going head-to-head during an off the field competition called “the Mississippi Food Fight.”
Extra Table, a non-profit based in Hattiesburg, started “the Mississippi Food Fight” as a way to raise funds for soup kitchens and food pantries across the state. Students and people in the community can get involved by logging on to and making a monetary donation.
Executive Director Michael Dixon said, “Whoever raises the most per capita for the students is going to get a nice championship belt delivered here on the field halfway through the game. One hundred percent of the money that gets raised will be used in those individual communities.”
According to Dixon, there are over 679,000 people in Mississippi that do not have access to the food that they need.
