The Brave Benefit held in Honor of Ocean Springs Assault Victim

The Ocean Springs woman who was attacked and assaulted at an apartment complex earlier this month is thanking her community for its outpouring of support.
The victim made her first public appearance at the ‘Brave Benefit’ Sunday, a fundraiser organized by the Ocean Springs community at the Mississippi Juke Joint. All of the proceeds from the event went toward the victim’s recovery.
Friends, family, and supporters of the community filled the Juke Joint, constantly showering the victim with hugs, kisses and words of encouragement. Sarah Reese, a friend of the victim, said, “We think it’s really important to continue to show the victim that we all support her and also to really take a stand against violence and to let everyone know that this is not going to be tolerated in our community.”
A GoFundMe account was created to help aid the victim’s recovery as well. Over $28,000 has been raised over the past 15 days. To make a donation, visit www.gofundme.com/helpbarbirecover.
