Thanksgiving dinner for veterans
To show appreciation for veterans on the Coast, the Safe Harbor United Methodist Church hosted a Thanksgiving dinner in their honor.
The American Legion Post 160 Honor Guard presented the flags before the dinner was served. The veterans were the first to be served.
Participants were encouraged to bring a picture of their loved ones as a table was set up in memory of past and present veterans.
The church’s youth group put this event together to show how thankful they are for the men and women who fought for our freedom. Youth group member Jaci Murden said, “Both of my grandfathers were in the military and a lot of uncles as well. So, it’s just really cool to be able to say thank you for times that they don’t get enough recognition that they need.”
Roy Bell with American Legion Post 160 said, “The veterans are very important to us because they fought for us and died for us. They are a part of our lives. All these people that put this on for us, we appreciate them very much.”
As participants left, they were encouraged to take a toy soldier with them and place it in their homes to remind them to pray for those who serve.
