Temporary lights to be installed in Ocean Springs

Some safety concerns have come to light for some night joggers in Ocean Springs.

A line of street lights on Front Beach Road in Ocean Springs have gone out. Tonight, at the Ocean Springs Broad of Alderman meeting, the city decided to work with Mississippi Power to address this issue.

Jeff Shepard with Mississippi Power says they will have temporary lights up hopefully by next week, weather permitting. In the meantime, they will be working with the city’s engineer and others to figure out what the issue is with the lights.

Shepard also said this will not be coming out of the city’s pocket. “In the mornings, in the evenings, I mean there are folks running, jogging, walking their dogs and so obviously you know we want to make sure everybody feels safe when they are in Ocean Springs and lighting is a big part of that. And obviously Front Beach is an important area there and so we are going to work with them and get this done as quickly as we possibly can.”

The city currently manages the lights on Front Beach. A possibility mentioned for the future is for Mississippi Power to take that over.
