Temperatures on the Rise
The Memorial Day holiday brought record breaking temperatures to the area.
Sunday, temperatures along the Coast moved from the lower 80s to the upper 80s. Today, temperatures jumped from the upper 80s to the lower 90s, making today the hottest day of the year.
Emergency officials are encouraging residents, tourists or anyone who plans on being outdoors for large amounts of time to stay hydrated, stay away from alcohol and keep sunscreen readily available.
Louisiana resident Karen Wells said, “They have been in the water the whole time. I’ve been under the umbrella and the ice cream man was out here, so we got our ice cream.”
Biloxi resident Anastasia Martin said, “We’re just playing in the pool for Memorial Day, trying to stay out of the heat.”
Officials also recommend wearing light colored protective clothing.
The first day of summer is June 21st.
