Teaching the next generation about MLK

Lynn Meadow’s Discovery Center had a day devoted to Martin Luther King Jr. today and kids of all ages took some time to learn about his message.

It’s a tradition that has been going on for over a decade. Every year, Lynn Meadow’s Discovery Center honors Martin Luther King Jr. by spreading his message to the youngest generation. “Just share the message that Dr. King had that we are all here on this planet together and that we want the children to learn that we are all here to help one another and care for one another.”

Dr. King’s ‘I have a Dream’ speech was on repeat in all of the rooms of the museum as children had the chance to hear stories and read books about his life and legacy. Lynn Meadow’s Discovery Center Manager Carla Sharrow said, “We have story time about Dr. Martin Luther King so that children can learn about him and who he is.”

Children got hands on to write some positive messages to be displayed throughout the whole entire museum. Lynn Meadows employee Ashley Pennington said, “Today in the art room, we are making these little hands as a unity chain and they are going to write a little message of peace for 2019 and it is also an important way for kids to learn that everybody is equal.”

An important message taught to some of our community’s youngest minds. “These kids and our future generations, they are going to be growing up and setting an example for their children. So, we want to make sure that everyone has the right mentality that everyone is equal.”
