Take a Veteran to School Day

Along the Coast people will be honoring our veterans and those who serve today.

Bel-Aire Elementary in Gulfport held their ‘Take a Veteran to School Day’ program this morning. It is a popular outreach program that helps connect veterans from all walks of life with students nationwide put on by Sparklight.

Those veterans that came to speak to the sixth grade students today were mostly Sparklight employees, but some were teachers and parents. They represented the majority of our military branches including the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, and Air Force.

They spoke about their time in the military, the benefits and the importance of Veterans Day.  Veteran Michael Davis said, “I really enjoy coming and talking to the kids about the military because it can help out their education and get them a good start in life. I really believe that and I try to express that. The military teaches you leadership and hard work.”

The students also got the chance to ask each service member questions so they can think about a future serving our country.
