Suspension of Trusted Traveler Program for Seabee base canceled, 100% ID check implemented instead

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) – New U.S. Navy guidance has come out regarding the Trusted Traveler Program for the Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport.

Initially, the installation announced it would be suspending the Trusted Traveler Program beginning this Friday, April 24, 2020, but that order has now been canceled.

Instead, starting that day security personnel will begin performing 100% ID checks of all people in vehicles seeking access to NCBC Gulfport.

The Trusted Traveler Program allows for uniformed service members or Department of Defense (DOD) employees with a valid Common Access Card (CAC), retired uniform service members or adult family members with a valid DOD identification card to sponsor occupants in their immediate vehicle, as well as occupants in two additional vehicles, and escort them on base.

Now, as long as those vehicle occupants have valid, government-issued ID cards, then their sponsor will still be allowed to escort them on base.

While each branch of the service has a Trusted Traveler Program, the different branches implement the program differently for their installations.
