Stop the Violence event preview

With the recent stretch of violence in Gulfport, the Gulfport chapter of the NAACP is taking action by engaging in community outreach.

Tomorrow night at 6:30, there will be a ‘Stop the Violence: Save our Youth” forum at the Isiah Fredericks Community Center.

Gulfport Police Chief Chris Ryle and Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson are expected to be in attendance and the event will feature break-out sessions with local youth and parents to see how the community can work together to reduce violence. NAACP Gulfport Legal Redress Co-Chair Theressia Lyons said, “We can’t stop. You know, the problem is still there, so we’ve got to keep trying, and we as community leaders, it’s our responsibility to get out there and reach out to these kids, to reach out to the parents.”

Gulfport NAACP officials say they plan to host more of these forums in the weeks and months to come.
