Step Forward for Biloxi Broadband Initiative
The Gulf Coast Broadband Initiative takes a step forward with a new partnership.
An internet service provider called Inline, as well as Coast Power Electric, teamed up with the City of Biloxi and other Gulf Coast cities for this initiative. Over 100 miles of fiber optic cable will run through Hancock County to Biloxi.
Members of this project believe the high-speed internet will benefit residents, businesses, and overall tech quality for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Jon Gifford, vice president of broadband and government for Inline, said, “The Coast is very important part of the economics of the state of Mississippi. We have great invested interest in the state of Mississippi with several thousand miles of fiber already in place in the state of Mississippi and this is a natural extension of that existing network.”
President and CEO of Coast Electric Power Association Bob Occhi said, “It’s going to improve the quality of life of those that reside, especially in the rural areas of South Mississippi.”
Ten of the Coast’s 12 cities and two of its three counties are members of the GCBI. Moss Point, Pascagoula and Jackson County have yet to join.
