Applicants rolled through the South Mississippi Regional Center Job Fair
The South Mississippi Regional Center Job Fair got underway at the Win Job Center in Gulfport today and it looks like brighter days are ahead for dozens of South Mississippians.
Applicants started rolling in early Tuesday morning in hopes of landing a job at South Mississippi Regional Center’s Job Fair in Gulfport. Human Resources Director Velecia Sims said, “We have state positions as well as contract positions, direct care workers, nurses. We also have some positions in dietary. There’s a maintenance position available, so there’s a variety of positions we’re hiring for.”
Gautier resident and newly certified CNA Sara Billiot is hoping to be hired as a nurse. A mother of three, she has plenty of experience when it comes to taking care of others and believes a recent life experience makes her a perfect fit for a job with SMRC, whose mission is to provide support for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “I actually lost one of my very dear friend’s mother. She was like a mother to me. She had dementia and cancer. We all had a hand in helping her get through that and helping her cope throughout her cancer journey, so when we lost her two years ago, it kind of ignited a spark inside to want to make life better for someone else.”
There was a steady stream of applicants at Tuesday’s job fair and the South Mississippi Regional Center is looking to put dozens of potential employees on their payroll. “We promote a positive-centered culture. We promote people being able to grow and mature with the agency, and we are truly a family.”
A family Sara Billiot and others hope to join. “I feel like everyone deserves that type of respect. No one deserves to be treated poorly. I’ve seen so much of that in the past, I feel like if I can be better, and shine a light, then that’s something I want to do.”
