State Program Helps Airports With Expansion

The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is hoping a state program will help bring more business to our coastal hub.
The Mississippi Development Authority is setting up guidelines for an air service development program which will hopefully go into effect this summer. The state has provided $750,000 to be allocated to airports across the state as an incentive for expansion. Grants could be used to bring a new carrier to a hub or allow an existing carrier to add another city.
Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport Executive Director, Clay Williams, said, “It’s a really good start. Many other states and communities have incentive programs set aside to encourage additional air services development and so for Mississippi, it’s a good thing that we’re going to have the program and I think it helps better position us.”
Currently, five airlines fly through Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
Williams says the tourist attractions we have to offer here on the coast can certainly help make our hub more competitive.
