Tradition of Excellence: SSC Rock-a-Chaws go back-to-back for program’s 11th title

Perhaps the best boys soccer tradition of any high school program on the Gulf Coast, St. Stanislaus is pretty much, at this point, competing against itself. Ten state titles, going on 11 and it was never really close.

Rock-a-Chaws and Ripley sharing the same field in the 4A championship game, but SSC wasn’t sharing any of the goals.

Second straight title for the Rock-a-Chaws by way of a 4-0 shutout over the Tigers, their 11th gold ball in school history, their third in four years for the 11-member senior class of 2021. Grant Sides said, “It’s awesome to know that there’s been so many people behind us that have also done what we’ve done and everything, and so making it the 11th, and having two others is just an honor and it feels really good.”

Head Coach Zach Villarrubia said, “Even just being a relatively new coach in the program, I understood the tradition coming in, and I mean to win 11 state championships in any sport, much less soccer, is not an easy thing to do, so my goal was obviously just to try to continue that tradition, and so far, so good.”

SSC ends the year with a mark of 14-2-1.
