St. Mark United Methodist Church members surprise pastor with parade

The pastor of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Gulfport had an exciting surprise waiting for him in the church parking lot Sunday.

Members of the congregation showed their love and appreciation for Pastor Rapheal Johnson and First Lady Cynthia Johnson with a surprise parade.

Services are happening online and in house due to COVID-19.

But church members say the parade gave them an opportunity to come together safely, while showing the Johnsons how special they are. Assistant Chair of Trustees Clyde Williams said, “With the pandemic going on a lot of people aren’t coming to church. We have a very few coming so we just wanted to get together and show the pastor that we love him and we still think of him all the time and it’s nice to have him here with us.”

Pastor Johnson said, “It’s nice to know we’re touching somebody’s life and that’s what it’s all about, to know that God has risen. It’s not about me. It’s about God who sent me to spread the word and I feel awesome to know we are touching people’s lives, because we certainly need the word this day in time.”

St. Mark United Methodist Church is located on 28th Street in Gulfport.
