Sports book revenues for the City of Biloxi

The City of Biloxi is putting a price on sports book revenues that can benefit some residents.

The city is projecting a million dollars in new revenue from sports books. The mayor and the city council are working on a budget with the projected new revenue that will hire six new police officers, hiring more employees in public works, and no property tax increase.

There was a four year plan in the works that would increase water rates. With the million dollar projected revenue, some Biloxi residents will not see an increase in water rates. Vincent Creel with the City of Biloxi said, “Monthly water bill will be going up for those who use more than 5,000 gallons of water each month. What that means is the majority of our customers, the overwhelming majority in Biloxi, are not going to see a water bill increase. However, the heavy commercial users will see an increase.”

The mayor and city council will continue to work on this budget until mid-September. The budget will go into effect October 1st.
