Sports book opening at the Scarlet Pearl Casino

The Scarlet Pearl Casino’s sports book is now up and running.

The Scarlet Pearl has joined the party. The former PRL Bar in the Scarlet Pearl Casino is now a full-fledged sports book for South Mississippians to enjoy. The book is quite simple. They have spreadsheets and a booth to the left of the bar where you can place your bets. Scarlet Pearl CEO Louann Pappas said, “I can’t even describe it, the elation. It’s been a long time coming. I couldn’t be more proud of everyone and certainly to be able to have our great brand to be connected to DraftKings. It’s amazing, just unbelievable.”

DraftKings, the daily fantasy sports contest provider, partnered with Scarlet Pearl for this book. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins said, “We want everything to be cutting edge and to keep it getting better over time. We want the audio visual experience to be great. We want the customer service to be great which ultimately we think Mississippi will have the leading edge on.”

DraftKings hopes to make this sports book more innovative than any other one on the Coast. One goal they have is to work with the Gaming Commission on live betting so games that are being played in real time on TVs can be bet on as well. “It’s the way everything else in the casino works to where you can sit down and play whenever you want and we think eventually sports betting should be the same way,” said Robins.

Wesley Walls, a Mississippi native and former New Orleans Saint, Carolina Panther, and Ole Miss star made an appearance to cut the ribbon and place the first bet. “I always love coming home to Mississippi. To be able to place the first bet at the casino, here at the Scarlet Pearl, is very exciting. I hope I win, then I’ll come back.”

Those first three bets were of course made on the Saints, Panthers, and Ole Miss.
