Sports betting brings in more visitors

It’s been just over a month since sports betting started on the Coast and according to gaming experts, it’s doing quite well.

The Beau Rivage was the first casino to offer sports betting on August 1st. Since then, nearly every casino on the Coast has an area setup for visitors to place their bets. Gaming experts tell News 25 the numbers for the first month will be released in the next two weeks.

Initial reports show a positive response and reports are expected to show an increase of visitors into Coast casinos.  South Mississippi Living Magazine Publisher and gaming expert Michael Sunderman said, “But they’re also seeing a huge influx of visitors, you know, traffic counts through the door to place their bets. Then they stay and eat and gamble other places. It’s been a really good win for the casinos.”

The Scarlet Pearl in D’Iberville is the only casino on the Coast that doesn’t offer sports betting. An official with the Scarlet Pearl tells News 25 they don’t have a specific date set yet, but the casino will offer sports betting soon.
