Splashin’ the Coast is back
Over 250 swimmers from across the country are on the Gulf Coast this weekend.
On your mark, get set, go. Splashin’ the Coast is back for the 11th year. Coach Jamie Lee said, “It is just an opportunity for us to show what a beautiful and unique facility we have here. It can kind of be classified as an indoor and outdoor facility with the retractable roof, not to mention just get the people here on the Coast and get them to enjoy coastal Mississippi.”
Eleven teams from across the country are here to compete in this swim meet. To the swimmers, this event is a chance for them to bond as a team. Swimmer Jace Cortez Fields said, “A really big thing that our coaches want us to focus on is that we are having fun because they know that if we are having fun our swimming is going to follow if we are all having fun.”
Despite the beach closures on the Gulf Coast, the out-of-town swimmers still plan to make the most of their time in Biloxi. Swimmer Zody Bennett said, “I do think of this swim meet as more of a vacation than a swim meet where we have to do work at. I feel like this swim meet is a really good experience for people who are nervous about swimming or are new because you get to bond with your team and you get so much more friends.”
The meet runs until Sunday and anyone is welcome to come out and watch it at the Biloxi Natatorium.
