Special Tactics Airmen ruck along Highway 90
A unique military tribute marched tonight from Bay St. Louis all the way to Keesler Air Force Base.
Two Special Tactics airmen rucked along Highway 90. When they arrived in Biloxi, 50 Keesler officers and airmen joined them.
A ruck traditionally involves a small group of military traveling long distances while carrying backpacks that can weigh up to 70 pounds.
Members of the community came out in full force to cheer them on along the way.
This particular ruck is to pay tribute to Staff Sgt. Dylan J. Elchin who was killed in Afghanistan on November 27th, 2018. Chief Master Sgt. Jeff Guilmain said, “We do the special tactics memorial march as a tribute to Dylan Elchin this time, but not only to Dylan to all of the men that we have lost in combat since 9/11. It’s a tangible reminder and tribute not only to the individuals that we’ve lost, but also a way to connect and pay tribute to the Gold Star families that are left behind as well.”
This isn’t the beginning or end of the ruck for these airmen. They started the ruck in San Antonio, Texas on February 22nd and they will finish in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, totaling 830 miles.
This is the fifth march the Special Tactics team has done since 2009.
