Special session wraps up

After working into the night, state lawmakers wrap up a special session in just one day, an effort to save taxpayers what can cost up to $100,000 a day when legislators are working in the capitol.
Budgets were worked out for the Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Transportation. After heavy budget debate lawmakers also passed the Fortify Act which included several budget procedure changes Governor Phil Bryant proposed for the special session. Those changes are meant to help calm concerns that credit rating bureaus have over the state’s finances.
Lawmakers also approved two measures Bryant added to the special session agenda on Monday after it had started. One of the bills will restore the $1.6 million that was supposed to go to the Point Cadet Leasing Fund.
