Special Session Addresses Budget

A special session at our state capitol is happening right now. Lawmakers are addressing significant budget shortfalls, a deficit that could ring to the tune of $75 million.
While Republican officials are hoping for a quick session, there’s no guarantee Democrats will sit quietly and go along with Governor Bryant’s plan to take the money from the state’s rainy day fund.
While Bryant is not asking legislators to change the budget for the fiscal year that starts Friday, many Democrats say changes are needed.
Bryant has already made two rounds of budget cuts and taken $35 million from the rainy day fund.
