Special needs kids shop for youth fishing rodeo at Shop with a Sheriff

Some Gulf Coast kids got a special treat this St. Patrick’s Day as Academy Sports and Outdoors donates money for new fishing gear.

Buddy Ball, an organization encouraging sports and leisure activities for youth and adults with special needs, prepares to bait hooks at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday.

Fifteen $100 gift cards were distributed to the kids, who were partnered with a Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy, helping them pick out fishing supplies.

After all the shopping was done, Academy donated an additional $1,000 to the organization as they prepare for their next baseball season. Academy Manager Eva Stockstill said, “I’ve never seen such happy children in my life. They’re look at all the fishing poles and trying to decide what baits and tackle boxes and even some sun glasses and clothes to wear. It was a phenomenal time for each of the kids.”

Harrison County Youth Fishing Rodeo is this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at 14572 County Farm Road in Gulfport. This is for kids ages three to 15.
