Special meeting called regarding Moss Point Mayor Mario King
Less than a day after news broke of Moss Point Mayor Mario King’s intent to plea guilty to federal fraud charges, two members of the Moss Point Board of Aldermen called for a special meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. today in the Moss Point City Hall boardroom.
According to an announcement on the City of Moss Point’s Facebook page, Ward 4 Alderman Ennit Morris and Ward 1 Alderman Sherwood Bradford cited a special called meeting to discuss Mayor King’s intent to enter a guilty plea in federal court.
A federal grand jury indicted Mayor King and his wife Natasha last June on 13 counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit fraud.
Prosecutors say the Kings raised money for mental health programs in schools, but spent it on themselves for expenses that included car payments and the purchase of a pet dog.
Though Mayor King has not returned our request for comment, we will continue to update you as the developments come.
