Special election to take place to determine Senate District 50 race

There is no longer a certified winner of Senate District 50. A special election has been ordered to determine who will represent that area of Harrison County in the state Senate.

According to our media partner, the Sun Herald, Special Judge Richard McKenzie, ruling for the Harrison County Circuit Court, vacated the certification of Dixie Newman as the winner.

Gov. Phil Bryant will set the date of the special election.

The Harrison County Republican Executive Committee had certified Newman as the winner of the election by one vote over Scott DeLano.
