Southern State’s energy board meeting

Governor Bryant is on the Coast this week hosting the Southern States Energy Board annual meeting at the Beau Rivage.

This year’s theme is ‘energy dominance.’ Officials from 16 states in the south are meeting through tomorrow to discuss environmental challenges in the region and how they can build a smarter and more sustainable energy sector.

With new businesses popping up every day on the Coast, Mississippi Development Authority Director Glenn McCullough tells News 25 energy is a key part of that development. “Safety is number one and people have to work safe, protect themselves, protect the public and also protect the environment. Energy is required for economic development and that’s one of the reasons Governor Bryant is hosting as chairman the Southern States Energy Board here on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

McCullough also tells News 25 with 75 percent of the BP funds coming to the Coast, the funds are expected to bring quite a boost to the state’s economy.
