Southern Miss WR Quez Watkins not playing until Sept. 14th
Last year, the Southern Miss passing game went as Quez Watkins went and most of the time that was a recipe for success.
The Golden Eagles are having to modify some of those ingredients to find that same level of early-season success.
At this morning’s weekly press conference, USM Head Coach Jay Hopson confirmed that the team will be without its leading receiver for the first two games of the year.
This news comes after Watkins tweeted Sunday that he won’t ‘spin it until September 14th.’
While Coach Hopson declined to explain the reasoning behind his absence, the Black and Gold will certainly miss the services of their first-team All-Conference selection.
In 2018, Watkins was on the receiving end of nine of USM’s 19 passing touchdowns with no other player accounting for more than three.
The rising junior was a full participant in fall camp after leaving Southern Miss in the spring to regain academic eligibility at a nearby junior college.
