Southern Miss Spring Game recap
In Hattiesburg, Southern Miss also held its annual spring game on Saturday with the gold team earning a 20-15 victory over the black squad.
The winning quarterback was incumbent starter Keon Howard, who was the best man under center, leading his team to three scoring drives in the first half.
He was pushed by Jack Abraham and Carter Hankins, making for a hot bed of QB competition as the Golden Eagles close out a successful spring. Head Coach Jay Hopson said, “I felt like there was a lot of competition. I thought it was going to be a runaway there at first, the Gold team jumped up quick but the Black team kind of fought back there and made it fun at the end.”
“Coming into the spring game, us against our own teammates, you’ve got to bring some energy to the sidelines and on the field. So today was just a good day to come out here and make sure everybody had the same energy, a positive energy and make sure we push each other and build each other up and continue to go forward,” said Howard.
Southern Miss opens the 2018 season at home against Jackson State on September 9th.
