Southern Miss runs past North Texas in 41-31 win

If a head coaching change one week into the season wasn’t bad enough, Southern Miss went on to lose its first two games of the Scotty Walden era in pretty deflating fashion, but finally some hope.

After allowing the most points in the history of games played at M.M. Roberts Stadium the week before, the road treated the Golden Eagles much better in the form of a 41-31 victory over North Texas.

USM never trailed after the first quarter and produced its first 100 yard rusher in Frank Gore Jr. for the first time since last November.

The end result was a Gatorade bath for Coach Walden in celebration of his first win as the interim head coach.

The Golden Eagles are now 1-3 ahead of Saturday’s home game versus Florida Atlantic.
