Southern Miss reaches bowl eligibility

After having its streak of 18 straight winning seasons come to an end in 2012, the Southern Miss football program is well on its way to extending its new streak to three after Saturday’s 43-34 victory at Rice.
The Golden Eagles are now 6-4 overall in 2017, making them bowl eligible for the third consecutive season. That’s also the second year in a row to start the Jay Hopson era with two regular season games left to still improve the resume.
Coach Hop is already starting to think about that improvement with USM still in search of perfection and a couple more wins in the process. “As a football coach it’s kind of like that search for the Holy Grail, you know what I’m saying? You’re waiting for that magic day when they all put it together, so again it’s certainly a quest that we’re on. We hadn’t played our best game yet, and so hopefully that’s what we’re going to strive to do and put it together and again it’s another tough team coming to town and we know it’s another strong battle but we’ve just got to go prepare.”
That tough team Coach Hop is referring to is 1-9 Charlotte whose only win on the season came against UAB who beat USM back in October.
