Southern Miss looking in the mirror
For a team that only lost to Kentucky by a touchdown in the season opener, Southern Miss was a heavy favorite to take down North Texas at home in last week’s conference opener.
Instead, the Golden Eagles blew a 21-7 second quarter lead, allowing the Mean Green to account for seven out of the game’s final eight scoring plays.
You could look at the stat sheet and say the offense wasn’t as much to blame, but after the game Head Coach Jay Hopson said there’s blood on everybody’s hands.
That’s the same sentiment being expressed by Offensive Coordinator Shannon Dawson leading up to USM’s road game at UTSA. “I mean there’s blood on everybody’s hands, mine included. I look at that game, I’m not going to get into extreme specifics, but there’s multiple things I could have done to help. There’s multiple things that Kwadra could have done. There’s multiple things that Ito could have done. So I mean ultimately I think that is the process of learning is like pinpointing those situations where you failed, and saying okay, when those situations come up again I’ve got to be smarter about it.”
Southern Miss will look to get smarter about it against the Roadrunners at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
