Southern Miss looking to channel 2015 quarterfinals run
Despite not having made it to the NCAA tournament since 1996, the Southern Miss women’s basketball team is starting to become very familiar with the post season.
Late Monday, USM secured one of the 32 at large bids for the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Its seventh appearance overall and the third in the last four years. It was later announced the Lady Eagles would be hosting Arkansas-Little Rock at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Just two years ago, they made a run all the way to the quarterfinals before losing to Michigan in front of a record home crowd of more than 5,000 fans.
Those memories are still fresh for head coach Joye Lee McNelis.
To accommodate that first round match-up in the field of 64, Southern Miss officials have moved tomorrow’s baseball game to 2 p.m.
