Southern Miss erases seven run deficit in series final vs. Northeastern
During a stretch of three straight home series in 2016, the Southern Miss baseball team won a game in each of those series via the walk-off. Two of them came on Sundays.
Now one home series into the 2017 campaign walk-off Sundays are already back at Pete Taylor Park. Yesterday, Storme “I love Ribbies” Cooper roped one into left field, scoring the game winning run in USM’s 8-7 triumph over Northeastern.
That magic came in the bottom of the ninth of a game the Golden Eagles at one point trailed the Huskies 7-0. You know what they say: don’t call it a comeback. “Since we’re down, just no worrying. We didn’t worry at all today, to be honest. We knew we were going to come back. I know last year we did that multiple times, just trusting our hitters and knowing our game,” said Cooper.
First baseman Dylan Burdeaux said, “Man, we expected it almost. So once it got to two outs with him up and a guy on second, it seems like he does it every time. That situation comes up to him all the time, and he gets it done every single time. He’s just clutch.”
USM was supposed to play Alabama at 6 p.m. tomorrow, but that game has been moved to Wednesday at the same time due to expected bad weather in Tuscaloosa.
