Southern Miss Basketball Preview: Men’s and Women’s Teams Needing Wins vs. UTSA
Conference play is underway for just about every college basketball program across the country, giving teams like Southern Miss the chance at a clean slate.
That goes for both the men and women who look to get back in the win column tomorrow night against UTSA. That task is a little bit taller for the Golden Eagles, a team that’s lost nine games in a row and hasn’t won a game in 44 days.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles hit the road, riding a two-game losing streak following their most impressive win of the year over Xavier.
In both cases, head coaches Doc Sadler and Joye Lee-McNelis are stressing a short term memory.
“Conference has started all across the country, conference play. It is new beginnings, new excitement, new energy. What we’ve done in the past, none of it counts. It’s all 0-0,” said Lee-McNelis.
Sadler said, “In conference play you’ve got to move on. We’ve got two games this week at home and we’ve got San Antonio and UTEP. Guys came out again and had a great practice yesterday and just getting ready to play hopefully play the best basketball we’ve played all year on Thursday night.”
The men’s team actually swept this homestand last year, beating UTEP and UTSA while the ladies fell to both of those same schools on the road.
Both games start at 7 p.m. central with the men tipping things off at Reed Green Coliseum
