Southern Connect Conference

The 2017 Southern Connect SAC Conference is taking over Harrison County for the next two days.
The conference revolves around a regional effort to improve transit safety, accessibility, and connectivity in South Mississippi. This morning there was a presentation on how transit systems can conduct an internal safety audit to provide the best service for the public.
Another concern in the conference is a lack of adequate transportation for elderly citizens, people with disabilities, and low income individuals. Southern Connect Regional Group Leader Deshella Butler said, “Drivers among the agencies within our region can get certified in wheelchair securement. We all know that’s a vital component of transportation, especially with the elderly population and the disabled population. So we want to make sure they’re doing that correctly so we’re offering that training here, too.”
The conference continues tomorrow at the Lyman Community Center from 9 to 5.
