Softball exposure camp makes its way to the Gulfport Sportsplex
Echoes of ‘hey batter, batter’ were heard across the softball fields at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
The two-day Gulf Coast Exposure Camp gave 240 girls, 9th through 12 grade, an opportunity to get noticed for their talent and skills.
Thirty-five schools in Division 1, 2,3, NAIA, and junior college levels were there recruiting student-athletes, some from different states, a chance at a scholarship.
The event organizer says his two daughters inspired him to bring a camp down to the Coast. Camp Director David Lastrapes said, “They asked me to come down and get something started here because fast-pitch softball wasn’t that big as it is in California. We started this. It’s an exciting part to watch the girls and can follow the girls through college that have gone through our camp and been successful.”
As a way to give back to the community, the camp plans to continue every summer.
