Pearl River Central Spoils Long Beach Homecoming with 42-10 Victory
LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) — The Pearl River Central Blue Devils spoiled homecoming night for the Long Beach Bearcats on Friday, October 30, cruising to a 42-10 victory in a Class 6A, Region 4 showdown at Lumpkin-Magee Stadium.
Both teams entered the matchup with 1-2 records in region play and plenty at stake in the playoff race. Long Beach was looking to snap a two-game losing streak in front of its homecoming crowd, while Pearl River Central hoped to build momentum following a victory over Pascagoula.
The Blue Devils wasted no time setting the tone.
Pearl River Central opened the game with a surprise onside kick from Bryce Tarter, which was recovered by Kendall Morrison, giving the Blue Devils excellent field position.
Quarterback Titus Feaster quickly went to work, breaking through the Bearcats’ defense for multiple first downs. Feaster capped off the opening possession with a rushing touchdown up the middle, putting Pearl River Central ahead 7-0 following the extra point.
The Blue Devils weren’t finished with their special teams surprises.
Pearl River Central attempted another onside kick on the ensuing kickoff and recovered it, once again catching Long Beach off guard.
However, the Bearcats’ defense responded, bringing down Feaster on fourth down to force a turnover on downs.
Long Beach quarterback Derek McDonald then helped spark the Bearcats’ offense, connecting with receiver Benjamin Alsaker on a third-and-five play. Alsaker turned the reception into a significant gain after the catch before being brought down by a Blue Devils defender.
Despite the big play, Long Beach was held to a field goal, putting its first three points on the scoreboard.
Pearl River Central continued to control the matchup, eventually pulling away for a commanding 42-10 victory.
The win gave the Blue Devils another important result in the Class 6A, Region 4 playoff race, while the Bearcats suffered their third consecutive loss on homecoming night.
