Soak up the Run

Just when you thought the summer couldn’t go by any faster, it’s almost time once again to lace up your shoes and keep up the pace.
Runners from all around the Gulf Coast laced up their sneakers at the Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs for a quick run and a toast of champagne as they shared the excitement for the 2017 Gulf Coast marathon and half marathon in the annual Soak up the Run Launch Party.
The launch party previewed details for the race including 2017 finisher medals, free beer, and local food. People of all ages were encouraged to come out and enjoy the fun and register for the race. Race Director Johnathan Dziuba said, “This is our halfway to go. Everyone’s starting their training plans and starting to up their mileage and get ready for the races in December. For Mississippi, there’s a kid one mile race on Saturday. There’s a 5K open on Saturday that’s open to any and every one and then on Sunday we have the half marathon which is 13.1 miles and the full marathon which is 26.2 miles.”
The race course runs along the Gulf between Pass Christian and Biloxi and features plenty of views throughout. More than 25,000 runners crossed the finish line in all three of last year’s races.
