Singing for the Salvation Army

The lights will be shining brightly in Pascagoula tomorrow as a famous country singer with strings to the Salvation Army takes center stage at a fundraiser for the nonprofit at the Hilton Garden Inn.

News 25’s Toni Miles has more about Jimmy Wayne’s ties to the Salvation Army and how a gift from the organization helped lead him down the path to country music stardom to landing him in Pascagoula this week in an effort to pay it forward.

Country star Jimmy Wayne remembers how the Salvation Army armed him as a little boy with what would one day help pave the way to a successful career on the big stage. Lt. Brian Hicks with the Jackson County Salvation Army said, “Jimmy Wayne came through the foster system. He actually received his first guitar through the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, so I’m really interested in hearing his entire story. I’ve yet to hear it. It’s all online, but I want to hear it first hand and just to see where he came from and where he is now and how the Salvation Army helped him to get to where he is now.”

Jimmy Wayne will be under the bright lights at Pascagoula’s Hilton Garden Inn at a major fundraiser for the Jackson County Salvation Army Tuesday night with a VIP sponsorship party kicking off at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30, followed by the keynote speaker. “We have country music star Jimmy Wayne coming down to be our keynote speaker. We are very excited about that. The thing we want people to know is about the Salvation Army and how they can help the Salvation Army help others,” said Hicks.

Something leaders at the Hilton Garden Inn have witnessed first hand. Hilton Garden Inn Director of Sales and Marketing Tammy Moore said, “The Salvation Army does so much to help Jackson County. We have the new store opening up on the corner of Market Street and Highway 90 in Pascagoula.”

The Salvation Army provides more than one million services each year to residents in South Mississippi. The Jackson County shelter is also the only place that provides shelter for entire families under the same roof.

The fundraiser is tomorrow night at Pascagoula’s Hilton Garden Inn. You can show up at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow to purchase tickets or call 228-762-7222 for more information. Sponsorships are also still available.
