Singing River Health System unveils new cardiac cath labs
Today, the Singing River Health System cut the ribbon on two new cardiac care rooms at two of their hospitals. These labs will serve South Mississippi residents by providing them with more health care options.
Heart care is now closer to home for many Coast residents with the introduction of new medical labs for that purpose. Singing River Health System Administrator Laurin St. Pe said, “This services many of the people that need elective cardiac procedures, whether it’s cardiac or peripheral, they can do all of those, or implant devices, pacemakers, defibrillators.”
Two cardiac catherization labs are located at Singing River Health System’s Gulfport and Ocean Springs hospitals, complete with brand new medical equipment for medical testing and care. Radiology Technologist Erica Whitfield said, “This equipment allows us to function. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”
The goal for these labs is to bring new procedures and health care options to the surrounding areas they’ll now serve, including northern Harrison County.
Singing River officials say that this facility at the Gulfport Hospital provides services that haven’t been available at this facility in the past. “This facility is so close and can get more patients here and we can save more lives with this facility being right here, and now that we have this state-of-the-art equipment, we have the team to do it, we have the physicians to do it.”
With these facilities now in place, continued growth is expected for the health system in the realm of cardiac care. “This is step one, and we clearly plan on adding additional services and especially with our partnership with Ochsner, we’ll continue to add those here at Singing River Gulfport.”
