The Mississippi Department of Transportation reminds political candidates that putting campaign signs on highway right-of-ways is illegal.
This includes driving lanes, shoulders, mowed areas, and distances of 300 feet or more from the centerline of driving lanes. MDOT tells News 25 the illegally placed signs are distracting for drivers and politicians should be aware of this law.
Patrick Arroyo said, “I drive frequently down Highway 90 and I see these political signs a lot and not only are they a distraction for drivers, I think they are an eyesore and the thing that really gets me the most is that after the election, none of them come and pick their signs up.”
MDOT officials are actively taking down campaign signs in illegal areas. Candidates are welcome to pick up their signs at MDOT offices.
