Shuckers season in review
It was too little too late for the Biloxi Shuckers who were already out of post-season contention by the time they took the diamond for their regular season finale this afternoon.
That didn’t stop them from ending 2017 on a high note with their 5-0 shutout over the Mobile Bay Bears. The Shuckers won four out of their last five games, but were ultimately three and a half games back of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp for the final playoff spot.
That’s the difference between winning and losing two head to head games which means the Shuckers are on the outside looking in for the second year in a row, but still a successful campaign that saw five former players make their Major League debut and Johnny Davis ended up on Sportscenter’s top ten plays for a highlight reel catch.
Davis was also the league leader in stolen bases, followed by Mauricio Dubon prior to his promotion to Colorado Springs.
Left handed pitcher Nick Ramirez was also called up to the Sky Sox yesterday to bolster the bullpen for their Pacific Coast League playoff run.
The Shuckers finish as the only Southern League South team to go over .500 in both the first and second halves with an overall record of 71-66.
