Shuckers come up two wins shy of Southern League title
In 2016, the Golden State Warriors won 73 regular season games and broke an NBA record that had stood for two decades, held by the Chicago Bulls 72 win team from 1996.
In 2018, the Biloxi Shuckers broke their franchise record with 81 wins, won both the first and second half titles in the Southern League South, but like the Warriors, they fell short of a championship.
On Saturday, the Shuckers came up short with a 3-2 game four loss to the Jackson Generals who took home the Southern League Championship with a 3-1 series victory.
The Generals were able to win back-to-back games in Biloxi where the Shuckers were by far and away the best home team in the league all year long.
Nonetheless, a banner season for the Double-A affiliate of the Brew Crew.
Let’s take a look back at the year that was, starting with those first and second half titles in the south division. Of course, setting the bar high with record 81 wins, 47 of which came at MGM Park, eight more than any other team won at home this season.
Finally, the Shuckers swept the Southern League post-season awards with Corey Ray earning league MVP, Zack Brown won most outstanding pitcher, and Mike Guerrero won manager of the year.
Ray and Brown also took home Milwaukee’s Minor League player and pitcher of the year awards.
