Shrimp Season Update

Shrimp season opened over a month ago and many Coast fishermen showed disappointment on the first day.
Today, DMR officials tell News 25 the numbers are slightly below average for June 2016, which is reflective from opening day.
The Shrimp and Crab Bureau Director says the low numbers can be attributed to the heavy amount of rainfall the Coast saw in the past month.
The price for 50 to 60 brown shrimp is currently less than a dollar. It typically ranges between a $1.50 to $2.00.
Even though the brown shrimp count is lower than average, DMR officials are hopeful for a turn around.
The next update on Shrimp season comes in the middle of August.
