Shooting in Moss Point may be connected to Pascagoula drive-by

Moss Point Police are actively investigating a shooting which occurred Thursday, April 22, 2021, near the intersection Jefferson Avenue and River Road.

About 7:50 p.m., Moss Point Police received calls of multiple shots fired in the area. Moss Point and Pascagoula officers responded and saw a pickup had crashed into a private dock just south of Jefferson Avenue on River Road.

A 58-year old man driving the vehicle was  suffering from gunshot wounds. There were two other elderly passengers inside the vehicle who were not injured.

The victims told officers they were traveling west on Jefferson Avenue and then turned left onto River Road to travel south towards Pascagoula. A sedan came up behind them and they heard gunshots. The victims said they were unaware that they were being shot at until the driver was hit, causing him to crash.

Moss Point and Pascagoula Police began a canvas of the area, locating witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene. The gunshot victim was taken to Singing River Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial indications are that this was a retaliatory shooting and the truck that was fired upon in Moss Point was mistaken for a truck that was involved in an earlier drive-by shooting in Pascagoula.
