Mississippi Power offers tips for Severe Weather Preparedness Week

It is Severe Weather Preparedness Week and Mississippi Power wants to share some tips with you on how to stay weather aware and have a plan in place to keep you and your loved ones safe.

That includes restocking your storm supplies, make sure you have flashlights and batteries. It’s always a good idea to stock up on water and non-perishable food items.

It’s fitting we’re currently dealing with a winter storm as Mississippi Power shares how to stay warm and what to do in case of a power outage. Mississippi Power Spokeswoman Kaila Moran Griffith said, “You can sign up for outage alerts at MississippiPower.com if you are a Mississippi Power customer. That will alert you to any outages in your area that estimated restoration time. Finally, if there is an outage or if you plan on using a space heater or a generator, we ask that you make sure to use that safely. Follow all of those safety guidelines as we don’t want any accidents or hazards coming from that as well.”

Other tips include staying inside, wear more layers of clothing inside your home, and limit how much you’re going inside and outside your home.
