Settlement reached in Equifax data breach

Now that a settlement has been reached in the Equifax data breach, what does it mean for consumers and us here in Mississippi?

If you were affected in any way by the Equifax breach back on September 7th of 2017, you can receive 10 years of credit monitoring and may even be eligible for restitution following a $600 million dollar multi-state settlement reached with the consumer reporting agency by attorney generals across the county – including Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood.

According to Hood, Mississippi will receive nearly $1.4 million dollars of the $175 million dollar settlement going to states with the remaining $425 million dollars set aside for eligible Equifax consumers.While you can’t file a claim until the settlement receives court approval, you can sign up for e-mail alerts about the settlement here.
