Setting the stage for the Carter’s Champions Pink Dress Run Block Party

They won’t be running, but instead strutting their stuff across the stage as the 4th annual Carter’s Champions Pink Dress Run Block Party gets underway Saturday.

There are some changes due to COVID, but the mission remains the same.

“The funniest thing you will ever see being at a walk and being in pink. I mean, they go all out. It’s almost all guys up there. They do their little dances. Then the crowd decides who the winner will be, and they walk away with $500 cash. It’s a lot of fun. You have to wear pink even if you don’t want to wear a dress.”

You can get a prime view at this weekend’s 4th annual Carter’s Champions Pink Dress Run block party. The mission to raise money to battle breast cancer right here at the local level remains the same, but there are some adjustments due to COVID. Carter’s Champions Pink Dress Run Executive Director Liz Gaulke said, “It’s the usual Pink Dress Run without the run this year because of all the COVID restrictions and guidelines we decided running a 5K in a mask probably wasn’t a good idea, so we skipped that part and we’re just going to have a block party right here on 14th Street in downtown Gulfport.”

But you’ll still get a mask and more in your swag bag once you sign up for Saturday’s block party fundraiser. “When you pay your $25 dollar registration fee, there will be a Pink Dress Run mask inside your swag bag. COVID does not stop breast cancer or their need to get chemotherapy and radiation. We did not want to stop supporting that as long as we can do it safely out here.”

It all starts brewing at noon this Saturday at Chandeleur Brewing Company and the surrounding outdoor area at the intersection of 14th Street and 28th Avenue in Gulfport. You can purchase your $25 ticket beforehand at pinkdressrun.com. Those 16 and under get in free.
